mad about paper

Although I do greatly enjoy working with metal and tackling its challenges (which it seems to put forward more often than not ;) there is something so tactile, simple and inviting when it comes to paper.
Above is a paper jewellery experiment that I am working on, using the most basic folding method imaginable and the very available recycled photocopy paper.

The most exquisite paper jewellery by Nel Linssen and the incredible paper sculptures by Richard Sweeney (also on flickr). And of course, cecilia’s blog: flor de papel.

Love your paper experiment, I work mostly in metal but am often drawn to experimenting in paper. I think it's the immediacy of the results cmpared to metal.
Thanks for the link to Richard Sweeney's work - it's amazing.
I want to thank you for your link to Richard Sweeneys work- so breathtaking. your paper experiment is fantastic. Tell me - how does colour come into play when using paper? It seems to be a material jewelers use for its structural potential and not any surface decoration. give nthat yo can have anything on the surface of paper but still choose monochrome - interesting.
Donna, I agree. The immediacy when working with paper is very appealing. It is really great to work with! Thank you for stopping by :)
Thank you for your question Ramona!
I cannot speak for others but for me, when working= I admit, I am drawn (more often than not) to exploring the structural and sometimes even spatial aspect of the piece. I suppose, in my case, this might be due to my background in interior design.
That doesn’t stop me though to drool over and to be inspired by rich and colourful work that I encounter. You never know…;)
Im experimenting with paper too right now, but in a different way.
At the moment Im exploring the magical world of transparacy and light. Working with all the paper I find (both in the bathroom and in the paperstore). I also want to make my own paper from scratch but its a really big project if you want a good result. there is a book I must recommend to you. I cant remember the exact title but Its called: textile techniques in mixed media sculpture or something like that. Very good book.
Wow Valdemar. Your experiment sounds really interesting! I hope you’ll show us some results. If you ever remember the title of that book please let me know. It sounds sooo appropriate!
After doing some high class investigation I found out the name of the book I told you about. Its called "Textile perspective in mixed media sculpture". Its written by an artist called Jac Scott.

thank you valdemar!!! the book looks a m a z i n g :)
So tell me.. How is the paperwork going? Have you done something else then what youve allready shown? Im really curious! After seing your work I got an urge to look in my old origamibooks wich unfortunatly is in another city at the moment. Im starting to leave paper and start to work with plaster and canvas to build for and volume. I did a braclet in paper that looks ok, but I dont have a good camera at the moment so you will have to wait a couple of weeks.
Cheers
Valdemar
At the moment I am finishing the finding for it.
I haven’t gone that much further in working with paper as I am working on few more things at the moment: back to working with metal (mainly rings). But my affair with paper ain’t over, by all means!
